Scrap Bats explores basic sustainable puppet making principles with the creation of a charming customisable bat marionette puppet from 90% recycled materials. Participants will work through a simple to-follow instructional process (although little hands may need parental assistance for certain steps) to produce a colourful bat puppet in a design of their choosing which they are then taught to operate and fly. In 2023, marionette making was added to the 'Endangered Crafts Red List' by the UK Heritage Crafts association. With that in mind, this workshop hopes to inspire a new generation of puppet-making and demonstrate that with a little imagination and creativity, even the most humble materials can be crafted into an innovative and effective marionetteĀ puppet.
NB: Only children need to book spaces for this workshop, but will still need to be accompanied by a responsible adult in the room.
