"Roots of Resilience" commemorates a decade of empowering African scientists with the expertise and resources to drive food security and sustainable growth. Led by Dr Carol Ibe as a Gates Scholar and Newnham alumna, this initiative has trained over 260 crop scientists in person and 10,000+ virtually in 19+ African countries, supporting a startup that positively impacts thousands of farmers in West Africa.
The hybrid event, featuring interactive workshops, talks, and exhibitions, will showcase transformative achievements in crop science capacity building, community-driven solutions, and sustainable practices developed through partnerships with Cambridge University’s Department of Plant Sciences and African research institutions. This celebration honours past accomplishments while paving the way for a sustainable future where scientists and farmers unite to address food insecurity, climate challenges, and rural poverty across sub-Saharan Africa.
As a platform for fundraising, awareness, and building global partnerships, the event aims to propel the next wave of agricultural solutions for Africa. Together, we can turn knowledge into action, making food security a reality for future generations.
This event is a unique opportunity for researchers, policymakers, investors, and development practitioners to connect, exchange ideas, and contribute to a more resilient and food-secure future for Africa.
